How to Get Silky-Smooth Skin Using Different Types of Waxes for Hair Removal

There are many different options when it comes to hair removal, with waxing being a popular choice.

Unlike shaving, waxing removes the hair directly from the root, meaning it grows back less often and the hair is thinner. Waxing also reduces the chance of getting ingrown hairs and removes the possibility of shaving rash. The results of waxing also last considerably longer than shaving, with hair re-growth not expected for between 3 – 4 weeks.

While opting for waxing might be an easy choice, knowing which type of wax to use can prove difficult. The following article will guide you through the different types of waxes there are to choose from and provide clarity on which will be best for you.

Different Types of Waxes

Warm Hard Wax

Warm hard wax is a versatile option as it works well on both thick and fine hair, meaning it can be used for a range of body areas. This hair removing wax is applied after being heated to a warm temperature. It then hardens as it cools and can then be directly removed.

As the wax hardens, it essentially becomes a strip, removing the need to also apply a strip onto the wax. This is handy if you’re looking for something fuss-free yet effective.

The only thing you need to be careful of is getting the wax to the perfect temperature where it isn’t going to damage the skin but is still going to cling to the hair enough to pull it out.

Warm Soft Wax

As given away in the name, warm soft wax is applied warm and then used with a strip to remove. This wax is typically cream, or resin based. Due to its soft texture, this wax is a practical choice for large body areas, such as legs, as it can be applied quickly and easily.

Despite its benefits, soft wax is undoubtedly more painful to remove than hard wax so may not be the best choice for your first wax experience.

Cold Soft Wax

As well as warm soft wax, there is also the option to use cold soft wax. Applied and removed exactly the same, the only difference is no heating is required for this wax.

This is ideal if you don’t have access to a microwave or hob to heat up the wax but can result in a more painful removal and greater irritation to the skin.

Premade Wax Strips

Premade wax strips come with the exact amount of soft wax you need, already attached to the strip. This is then directly applied to the selected body part and removed using the strip. There is no heating required when using this method.

These can be a good way to get into waxing as you don’t have to worry about determining how much wax to use, however, they can be more costly than other methods.

Sugar Wax

Sugar wax has a more natural formula than other alternatives, typically consisting of a combination of sugar, lemon, and hot water.

This is ideal if you are wanting to wax but have sensitive skin, or if you are just a keen natural beauty user. This wax can be made at home but should be done so following close instructions.

The wax needs to be heated, then cooled, and is used with strips for the removal process.
