The Foundation of It All: Skincare Matters
Let’s start considering the foundation and applying cosmetics long before you think of touching a brush.
And no, I don’t mean foundation yet—I’m talking about skincare!
The kind of skin you present dictates the quality and durability of the makeup you put on your face.
Here’s the breakdown of a simple skincare routine you can do in under 5 minutes:
Cleanse & Moisturize
Always start with clean skin.
You don’t want any dirt, oil or remnant make-up from the previous night to obscure your skin.
After you are washed, rub a non-greasy lotion which shall be best suited for your skin.
This step is non-negotiable, not even for someone with oily skin:
The skin drinks the water and is happy for it.
SPF is Your BFF
Just remember, most moisturizers don’t have sun protection, so you’re going to need to apply SPF after this.
The rays can penetrate your house through the windows even if you are not going out in the sun.
It occurs that many moisturizers for the face contain SPF, which makes it easier to deal with it.
And so, makeup – after your skin is clear and radiant from within or outside.
Keep It Light: Foundation and Concealer
The next step is to blend the skin tone, but we don’t need it to be very thick and less shiny like a cake.
Simplicity is best as proven by the outcome your skin will exhibit after a treatment.
Foundation
The best friend is a lightweight foundation or a tinted moisturizer.
It helps to clear skin imperfections yet does not mute or remove your glowing complexion completely.
You can apply it with your fingers or a damp makeup sponge just to press it onto your skin.
This is not like you’re painting a wall, all you want is to hide the inconsistencies and have a wet smooth look.
Pro tip: Treat foundation just as you apply concealer, to areas you require it.
This might mean avoiding areas that are already smooth such as your forehead or chin, in case they are almost there.
Concealer
Had a pimple appear or perhaps, those dreadful under eye circles decided to make an appearance?
Enter concealer.
Spot a little on the area under the eyes or any spots and redness, it’s then merged using finger tips or a small sponge.
Just remember—less is more.
This way you can add more when necessary, but when you start small the hair looks more natural.
Blush for that Healthy Glow
Someone showed up with photos of people with makeup so severe you’d think it was knife work but you don’t need all that for grocery shopping.
Contouring is putting color on the cheekbones, a simple swiping of blush across the apples of one’s cheeks can brighten up one’s face and make you look more alive.
Cream vs. Powder Blush
If your goal is to have a very natural more like no blush at all look on your cheeks, then cream blush is the way to go. It is not sticky at all, it just blends on your skin and embraces you with that inner glow.
Pat it on your cheeks with your fingers and blend it outward for a natural-looking effect.
Prefer powder blush?
That’s fine too! It is best to use a soft brush for its application and make sure to tap it gently.
Shimmer, never swamp—start with a little, and add if required, it is easier to do the former than the latter.
Eyes: Keep It Simple and Fresh
Blush, lipstick, eyebrows—there are so many things you might paint if you want to, but it’s wiser to stay basic and clean, and if there is a goal to look neat and refined, don’t overcomplicate it.
Neutral Eyeshadow
For that casual look, the best you can start with is by using a brush to apply a single color, typically a natural color, on the eyelid.
Perhaps soft browns, or a sort of beige or peach hue if you will.
All you have to do is, gently dab it with a fluffy brush over your lids and you’re ready to go!
If you want a little extra dimension?
Then take a slightly darker shade than the shade used on the lid and apply it into the crease.
This offers your eyes a somewhat three-dimensional look, without being too extreme.
Mascara
Mascara is the hero product that you require for a successful eye-opening activity that does not really need much effort.
Otherwise, you can curl them (you know it helps) and put one or two layers of mascara on.
Hold the brush from the base of the lashes and swipe it again while dragging it upwards for lifting and volume.
Pro tip: It’s best if you don’t have time for eyeliner do it intentionally citing lack of time.
To enrich your look, all you need is Mascara so you will get wide eyes despite the lack of sharpness on the line.
Brows: Frame Your Face
How can we talk about makeup and not include the most crucial part which is, the eyebrows.
Brows enhance your face neatly shaped brows can radically transform your appearance and you don’t have to waste hours on it.
Brow Gel
If your brows are thick, then a tinted brow gel will do the trick perfect for you in the morning and go about your business.
This will keep your hairs in check and enhance the color slightly without doing a complete fill in job on them just comb it through your brows upwards for that fuller look.
Brow Pencil
For people with little brow hair, a brow pencil will come in handy to fill these gaps.
Paint it in feathery motions that will explain the direction and depth of the hairs, then settle the color with a spoolie.
Remember to keep things gentle, sharp arches or big, chunky eyebrows won’t look right here.
Lips: Soft and Simple
Now that the skin sparkles and our lashes swipe on, it is time to discuss the lips and what to do with them.
With this, there are a few options to go in, but to keep things neat and clean, let’s go with clean and simple.
Tinted Lip Balm
For the au naturel, boy-next-door, I-can’t-wear-makeup-if-my-life-depends-on-it, but for those special occasions, a tinted lip balm is perfect.
It adds some color to your lips but at the same time keeps the lips moist and smooth.
More than that, this product can be applied while on the move and without involving the mirror which is very convenient.
Lipstick
If you desire a little more color, go for a lip gloss or lip stain.
These are great because they give you the spark of that color you need without compromising the feeling of having heavy or rough lips.
If you want that natural gloss, oh and believe me, it’s going to look fabulous, then put on a color that is slightly lighter than your natural lip color.
Highlighter for that Extra Glow
Alright, alright, we said we’re going to keep things simple now let me tell you, highlighter is where it’s at.
A hint of shimmer on the areas of the face that you want to accentuate: cheekbones, brow bones, and the nasal bridge completes this look perfectly.
Cream vs. Powder Highlighter
For the best and more natural looking touch, I recommend creams or liquids of highlighter.
Just dab a little on the high points of the face and gently tap it out with the fingertips.
If you like powder highlighters just use a powder brush to lightly tap it on – you do not want to look like a wet polish car!
Setting It All In Place
So having your preferred look in place, next is how to make it firm.
What I like to do is after applying makeup, even if I’m not going to reapply any makeup on my face that day, a quick spritz of the setting spray gives that extra boost of moisture to your skin.
If you are into powder then simply apply a sheer layer especially on the T area or where you usually have oily skin.
Quick Recap: Your Simple Makeup Routine
- Skincare First: Skin prep and protection with SPF.
- Foundation & Concealer: Stay as clear as possible when going for that radiant look.
- Blush: Rub your cheeks with a bit of color.
- Eyeshadow & Mascara: Stay natural and lift those eyelashes.
- Brows: Groomed but not overdone.
- Lips: Lightweight lipgloss for that subtle stain.
- Highlighter: Not necessary though it adds that perfect sheen.
- Setting Spray or Powder: To keep everything in place.
And that’s it!
A quick beauty regime that will ensure the woman looks radiant and gorgeous is ready to face the world— all without the makeup artist chair experience.
For the girl on the go this is your one stop, no fuss, look no further type of beauty how to.
Try it out, adjust it how you want and the main thing, enjoy what you are doing.
Anyway, makeup does not work in a way to aim to cover all that beauty; instead, makeup is about only adding to what you already have.
