Things You Should Do Before Tossing Your Laundry in the Washing Machine

Sharing is caring!

Learning how to do laundry may be an easy task to do, but for some, it is a challenge. Most washer and dryer has made doing laundry simple.

Even dry cleaning delivery near Hells Kitchen do. However, mistakes still happen even when things become simple and easy. It is because we forget about the basics.

Here are the things you should do before tossing your laundry in the washing machine or have them picked up for laundry delivery services:

Take the Wash Care Label Seriously

You should read the wash care label and take it into heart, especially when it says handwash only and dry clean only.

Garments and linens have different care instructions, and some may have special wash instructions. Fabric materials react to water, heat, and laundry cleaning materials differently.

Hence, if you notice garments that have special instructions, wash them separately. If you are not fond of washing delicate clothes, avoid buying ones in the future.

Sort the Laundry by Color and Fabric Type

It is important to sort your clothes before throwing them into the washer. This allows you to determine the appropriate temperature and wash cycle to use for the clothes.

Pretreat any Stain

It is important to pretreat the stains immediately. Only time can tell how easy and efficient you can remove the stain from your clothes.

Use natural ingredients such as white vinegar and baking soda to remove stains efficiently. Do not toss laundry with stains in the dryer, the heat sets the stain even more, making it more stubborn to remove.

Use a Gentle Laundry Detergent

Harsh laundry detergent may lose the durability of your fabric because of its harsh chemical components. Choose an all-purpose and gentle laundry detergent. Read the instructions to know how much is the recommended amount according to load size.

If you are washing athletic clothes that have a moisture-wicking component, only use half of the recommended amount. It might be difficult to rinse your laundry thoroughly. Let’s prevent residues on your clothing, or else it will smell.

Do Not Use Bleach and Fabric Conditioner

Bleach and fabric conditioner are not safe to use. Using bleach may cause discoloration, meanwhile, fabric conditioner may give your clothes a nasty odor because it easily builds up, especially on synthetic fabrics. Instead, use baking soda and white vinegar to soften your laundry and help remove some stubborn stains.

Air Dry, Only Use the Dryer When Necessary

Air drying is preferred than tossing your clothes into the dryer. Among those are saving energy and less damage to your clothes.

If you are not in a hurry, air dry your clothes, but if you need to wear them as soon as possible, load them in the dryer. Be careful loading the clothes. Some fabric type shrinks when exposed to heat.

Mistakes can still happen even after this, but help yourself be reminded of these important things to do. If you do not have enough time to do the laundry, go to the laundromat. You can relax and enjoy your time while your laundry is handled by experts.
