Things to Consider When Choosing a Bridesmaid Dress

Sharing is caring!

The Bride will be responsible for going to the store and trying on the bridesmaid dresses once she has carefully selected the design, material, or even the color that she wants you to wear on her special day.

However, there are a few items you’ll need to have on hand before you wear that polyester or chiffon gown.

So what does it take to be ready for everything that goes into a bridesmaid dress fitting?

To help you make the most of this crucial pre-wedding event, I will let you know about the other essentials you must consider while selecting formal dresses for bridesmaids.

1. Suitable Undergarments

When it comes to bridesmaid dress-fitting attire, if you’re stuck, start with the essentials: undergarments.

According to industry experts, “a bridesmaid should wear the exact undergarments that she plans on wearing on the day of the wedding to her dress fitting.”

Bring a few different bra alternatives (particularly a strapless version), as you can’t be sure how the dress will fit. You can try on each one to determine which fits best and is most comfortable.

Nobody wants to see your cheetah-print bra poking out, so keep it simple and stick to seamless shapes and pale tones.

It may even have cups sewn in if the dress has an open back or a low back, but having other bra options will still be useful.

2. Cosmetics/Makeup

You’ll be fully made up with your hair pulled back and makeup applied on the wedding day. When you go to try the dress on, apply some lipstick and blush to get a head start on how the dress will truly look.

3. Shoes

Bring a couple of different shoe alternatives to try the dress on, but for now, bring a special pair that matches the bride’s color or style request.

This way, when looking at bridesmaid dresses, you may inform her which shoes you believe will look best.

Since most dresses are made for a 5’10” bridesmaid, it’s a good idea to wear shoes that are somewhat similar to your wedding shoes.

This will decide how much hemming you need, if you’re a little taller, and whether the dress needs to be hemmed longer.

“The gown can be nearly completely altered by the seamstress, who just needs to save the hem for a future fitting. Attempting to hem without the real shoe is extremely dangerous.”

4. Jewelry

Bring those accessories with you to assist in imagining the entire set when you’re putting on the dress, especially if the bride gave the bridal party new necklaces or earrings that she wants her squad to wear on the big day or if she has a specific jewelry vision in mind.

In addition, the future bride will be overjoyed to know that you support her choice of accessories.

To get an edge and her approval, send her a selfie of the whole look, jewelry included. It’s usually a good idea for the bride to bring some elegant earrings to the dress fitting, even if she hasn’t chosen any jewelry yet, just to get the look.

5. Hair Clips

Are you styling your hair for the wedding? To have a better idea of how the dress would appear with an updo, bring a hair tie or clip. This will also allow you to see more of the gown’s back and neckline.

“Most importantly, if the bride is present at the fitting, keep things positive.” Tell no one what you think, even if you’re not completely smitten with the bride’s chosen attire.
