Are you looking for great places to buy affordable art online to redecorate your home? I’ve got great recommendations for you. I’ve picked these places based on very specific criteria, including:
- Number of offerings and art themes/subjects
- Accessibility (easy to order)
- Easy return/exchange policy; and,
- How affordable the artworks are (frames included!)
One criteria I noticed but chose not to add to the bulleted list is how often they go on sale. It just might interest some buyers out there who are almost always on the lookout for great discounts.
What to Look for in Affordable Wall Art
Finding affordable art isn’t just looking at the price. It’s also looking at the overall value of the item.
You may find a $20 artwork of the same size and design from two different shops, but one may use low-quality paper and flimsy frames. It happens. Some even cut corners and scrimp on packaging. What happens when it reaches your door? Others don’t include hanging kits and you’ll have to buy it separately from the hardware store.
Some only provide a 24-hour window upon delivery when raising any concerns about the item. Outside this time, you’ll forfeit the money back guarantee.
And, at the end of the day, it’s really all about affordability. Sometimes, we don’t really need expensive decor. We just might need something that works. Maybe something for our airbnb business or a guest house that’s rarely used. Either way, I’ve listed my most recommended online shops for wall art that won’t break the bank.
Best Affordable Wall Art Brands for a First Apartment
Hive Artes for Abstract Wall Art
Hive Artes is probably one of my favorite wall art prints shops for affordable framed posters and framed canvas. They have a variety of themes, including abstract wall art, landscape, nature, and floral art, that don’t look like those offered from most shops.
That’s probably because their tagline is “fine art-inspired” prints. Another feature that makes them stand out is they’re not mass produced. Once you pick and buy an artwork, it’s removed from the inventory. You get a one-of-a-kind art that you can hang up at home or give as a gift.
I’ve seen many of the reviews online and they also don’t scrimp on packaging. The wall art is delivered fully protected and ready to hang at home. The artwork prices at Hive Artes begin at $40, and they’re often on sale.
Art.com for Classic Paintings and Photography
Art.com is an OG when it comes to online wall art. They’ve been acquired by Walmart in the past, and currently owned by Trends International. It has not only canvas and posters, but it also has art photography items.
You’ll be supporting independent artists, too, when you buy from Art.com. These offerings, of course, will come at a much higher price point. But they offer the most customization in this list of online wall art shops, including adding matting on your artwork and adding glazing on acrylic frames.
Desenio for Coordinated Gallery Wall
One thing that Desenio excels at are gallery wall art pieces. Creating a gallery wall from scratch can sometimes be daunting. Desenio makes it easy! They offer wall art as a set, but you can still remove certain items from the set before doing a checkout. Every gallery wall set is also customizable in terms of art sizes and their frames.
While it does come at a high price point, the art prints are beautiful and will match most home themes.
Fy! for Expressive Prints from Independent Artist
Fy! is best known as a marketplace for over 30,000 independent artists selling their art. They offer modern, eclectic, bohemian, art deco, and many other themes. The cost of artwork on their website is $41.95, but when on sale, can go as low as $24.95 for the posters. The canvas prints are more expensive at a base price of $81.95 (no frame).
They offer only two options for print surface: poster (which they call fine art print) and canvas. You can choose from 6 sizes, from 9” x” 12” to 39” x 52”, and 7 options for frames at an additional cost.
Poster Store for Scandinavian-Inspired Art
The Poster Store is a great and functional platform to buy modern wall art decor for your home. It offers canvas and poster prints with and without frames.
Wall art at the Poster Store costs $25.95, but they’re usually on sale too, and can go as low as $15.57 on posters. The canvas prints carry a higher price tag at $95 ($71.25 on sale). Make sure to add allocate some budget for the frame.
What I love most about Poster Store is their intuitive shopping experience on the website and art themes that can match any modern home. They have nice colors, bright and muted, and black and white, too.
Choose the Right Art Format for Your Budget
Every wall art decor project has a theme, a budget, and a timeline in mind. The theme is usually the most difficult one when there’s just too many options, in store and online.
Paper Prints or Posters (no frame)
While most online shops give you options for frames, sometimes they come at a higher price point. If you have a cheaper frame in mind, you can just buy a paper print or poster print of the art you want. They would usually send the artwork in a tube container.
Most big box stores offer affordable frames, such as Target, Walmart, and Ikea. Even more affordable stores for frames are HomeGoods, TJ Maxx, and Marshalls.
However, if you want higher quality frames to match your beautiful posters, go with craft and hobby chains like Michaels and Hobby Lobby. They almost always have BOGO sales.
Canvas Art (Skeleton Frame)
Canvas wall art has canvas material stretched over a wooden frame. You won’t physically see the wood while admiring the artwork from the front side. It’s only a skeleton frame to hold the canvas in place. It will still have hanging hardware attached at the back.
A more premium version of the canvas is a framed canvas. A framed canvas has the canvas material stretched on the skeleton frame, plus an external wooden frame on the outside of the canvas that’s visible to the eyes.
