Many of us spend a large amount of time in our kitchens over the course of the day. Whether it’s sitting at the breakfast bar enjoying a big breakfast before work or coming together with the family after a long and tiring day, many precious (and delicious) moments are spent in what is often referred to as the “heart of the home”. With so much time spent in this area of the home, it comes as no surprise that we want our kitchen and dining space to be as cozy and comforting as possible.

Today, we look at 5 essential design tips for creating a cozy, inviting, and warm kitchen and dining space, so sit back, relax and read on to find out more!

5 Design Tips For Creating A Cozy Kitchen & Dining Space

1. Wonderful Window Treatments

The kitchen is the one room in the home where window treatments are totally optional, but this doesn’t mean that we shouldn’t spice things up with some gorgeous kitchen curtains and blinds.

If you are lucky enough to have a large window in the kitchen, some sheer blinds or curtains allow you to enjoy amazing filtered light throughout the day, thus creating a warm and inviting space regardless of the time.

If you’re a fan of curtains, be sure to choose fabrics that are easy to wash (linen and cotton are perfect examples) as cooking smells tend to linger.

Roller blinds are also a great option if you’re aiming for a modern interior design. Blinds are also incredibly easy to wipe down and clean, making them perfect for the inevitable spills and splashes that occur in kitchens on a regular basis.

2. Keep Clutter At Bay

There is nothing cozy or inviting about clutter, so ensuring that you get your organization game on is key to creating an inviting kitchen space. Remember to keep your counters clear and to only display meaningful or frequently used items and appliances.

Thinking of ways to maximize your space will help immensely with decluttering as well. Consider hanging your pots and pans to save some space and be sure to put items back in their designated storage spots to avoid clutter building up over time.

3. Add Nooks and Crannies

Adding nooks and crannies to your kitchen and dining space is an ingenious way to increase storage or sitting space, organize your items, and add some cozy charm to your space all at once.

Exposed shelving is ideal for displaying beautiful crockery, cookbooks, candles, and culinary herbs whilst corner shelves are perfect for pantry items, bottles of wine, and spices.

If you have the luxury of a large window, consider yourself lucky because you’ll be able to create a cozy seating nook that can be jazzed up with some fluffy throw pillows and blankets; perfect for sipping hot cocoa and watching the birds on a freezing cold day!

4. Add A Touch Of Nature

Adding elements of nature to your kitchen and dining space is a fantastic way to make it feel more organic and cozy.

The easiest way to do this is to purchase some gorgeous indoor plants such as the cast iron plant, monstera delicious, and the highly popular spider plant which thrives in shaded locations, meaning you’ll be able to pick and choose as to where you place your foliage (not having to worry about indirect light or a window is always a plus!).

Another great tip is to incorporate as much natural wood and stone in your decor, whether that be with your dining set, countertop or flooring to really add some rustic or naturalistic charm to your space.

5. Focus On Darker Shades

This one may take you by surprise, but incorporating dark colors such as blacks and dark blues are actually perfect for creating an incredibly cozy, warm, and inviting kitchen and dining space.

Dark colors are the opposite of light and airy and when paired with some expertly chosen ambient mood lighting, you’ll find that your kitchen and dining rooms will be transformed into cozily elegant interior spaces. You don’t need a fully black room either think of black cabinetry against a white herringbone backsplash, all perfectly tied together with beautiful cookware, cookbooks, candles, and plants.

That’s another advantage of using darker colors! They’re incredibly easy to style and balance out using lighter furniture, window coverings, and decor. That’s why the classic monochrome kitchen color scheme of black and white checkered tiling, has been so widely used by interior designers over the last few decades.

Creating the cozy kitchen of your dreams is indeed as simple as it seems! With some careful thought and planning, you’ll be able to create a kitchen and dining space that you’ll be waiting to get home to at the close of each and every day.
