Life for many families is hectic; the days and weeks often go by in a flash as you struggle to keep up with all the tasks that need to be completed.
But, it is essential to remember that kids grow up so quickly, and one minute they are tiny tots requiring your full attention, and before you know it, they are teenagers that no longer want to spend time with you. So, spending time together while the kids are still living at home is essential to avoid missing out on precious moments.
But, trying to run a house and keep on top of the million and one other tasks that need to be completed can make it challenging to spend as much family time together as you may like. If you are looking for opportunities to enjoy more quality time with your kids, why not give some of these ideas a try?
1. Make it a Date
If there never seems to be a day when everyone is free for some quality family time, you may need to schedule it in.
Agreeing on a date for spending time together is a great way to ensure everyone keeps their schedules clear and nothing gets in the way of your family time.
If this idea works well for your family, you could try and make it a regular occurrence by blocking out a day each month where everyone commits to being together.
Don’t forget to write the date on the calendar so no one forgets and accidentally schedules other plans!
2. Relax Together
As family life is so busy, you may not always feel in the mood to make your time together adventurous. This is absolutely fine, as spending time together is the priority, so what you do is less important.
Simply spending time relaxing together and enjoying each other’s company is a great way to bond with the kids and give yourself a well-deserved rest at the same time.
You could get cozy and enjoy listening to audio books for kids to spark their imaginations and enjoy a shared story. Or, how about arranging a movie night and watching your favorite family films while feasting on some tasty snacks?
Enjoying some quality time spent relaxing is the perfect antidote to the stress of family life and a great way to slow the pace of life down a little.
3. Let the Kids Choose
Older kids can be a little more reluctant to spend time with their parents. So, to overcome this, you could leave it up to them to decide what you should do as your family activity.
Tweens and teens are more likely to get on board and join in with some family time if it is an activity that they would like to do.
So, whether it is a visit to the movies or a shopping trip, allowing them to decide what you do together (within reason!) could be the ideal solution to help you spend more time in each other’s company.
