Why a Road Trip with Friends Should be on Your Bucket List

A well-planned road trip offers an experience that’s distinct from every other kind of holiday. The sense of spontaneity and freedom that comes with life on the open road is difficult to replicate – and if you’re in the company of a select group of friends, then the journey can be truly unforgettable.

Road Trip with Friends

Road Trips Are Less Hassle

If you’re travelling by plane or boat, then you’ll need to contend with all of the procedures and restrictions that come with loading and unloading your belongings, dealing with paperwork, and paying the premiums associated with these forms of transport.

As a result, the road trip ends up being economically competitive, on top of all its other virtues. While you might occasionally come up against toll roads and national boundaries, and the cost of fuel can be fairly substantial, the reality is that you’ll be spending less and worrying less.

Set Your Own Schedule

If you’re going to get the most from your trip, it makes sense to book your accommodation in advance. But you’ll still be free to choose how you’re going to spend any given day.

Between waking up and going to bed, you’ll be able to pick out any activity you like, provided that it’s en route.

So, you’ll get a degree of flexibility. If you’re travelling with a few friends, then you might even go your separate ways when you visit a town and you all have different ideas about how to spend the time. It’s better to have a few hours apart than it is to be dragged to attractions and events that you aren’t really interested in.

Plenty of Surprises

Part of the joy of a good road trip is that no two days will be quite the same. As such, it’s pretty difficult to get bored. And if you do get bored, then you’ll have the freedom to change your itinerary along the way.

How to Prepare

As we’ve mentioned, preparing for a road trip can help make the difference between an enjoyable experience and a forgettable one.

Make sure that you’re packing for the entirety of the journey, and that the car is fit for the trip. After all, you’re going to be depending on it.

Stock up with emergency supplies, engine oil, and spare tyres. You can pick up premium tyres beforehand, and fit them at your convenience. Many modern cars don’t ship with a spare tyre as standard, so it’s a good idea to check before you get caught out.

Of course, as well as the spare tyre itself, you’ll also need the skills to fit it. While it’s possible to learn at the point you come to change tyres, the experience will be a lot less stressful if you’re confident in what you’re doing.
