37+ Dreamy Terracota Nail Designs to Rock This Season

Sharing is caring!

When you think of the word terracotta, you may think of garden pots, roof tiles or ancient Greek pottery.

Nails may not be the first thing that springs to mind! But, the low key orangey brown colors of terracotta have been flooding our socials this season, and we are absolutely here for it!

Terracotta nails are so versatile that they will last through the seasons.

Think of summer – They are the perfect accompaniment to a white sundress and a glittery blue ocean backdrop. You will struggle to find a color that compliments a sunny vacation quite like terracotta nail designs do!

But, luckily, it’s not just a color reserved for summer days, as terracotta also blends perfectly with the orangey browns of a crisp fall day. It really is a great all-rounder!

You’ll see tons of celebs and influencers rocking terracotta colored nails year round.

Neutral tones have been trending for a while, but terracotta is just orange enough to add a bit of excitement to the usual muted tones of fall, and dark enough to stand out against the brighter colors of summer.

But the real reason we are loving this earthy color is that it really does go with any outfit or style, so a set of terracotta nails can transcend you through the seasons, from blue ocean views to forest walks. Belissima!

Keep scrolling for trending styles of terracotta nail designs this season, as well as a hand selected list of the cutest styles we have found online.

How To Do Terracotta Nails at Home

Ready to give terracotta nails a try for yourself?

The first step is finding the right shade of polish for you. We love Essie’s ‘Rocky Rose’ for its distinct orange hue and glossy finish.

Or, if you prefer a UV gel polish, try Beetles’ Savannah Celadon, the perfect muted shade of terracotta.

Once you’ve settled on your perfect terracotta color, it’s time to prep! Clean your nails with a nail polish remover for a grease-free base to work from.

Then you can file and shape your nails as required, paying attention to creating a smooth edge with a buffer to smooth out any ridges. Push your cuticles back to elongate your nails and use a good quality cuticle oil or cream to keep them soft.

Before you apply polish, always wipe over each nail with some extra remover to ensure you get rid of any residue from the filing.

For a darker color like terracotta, you want to build up the color in layers. Apply a thin layer of polish at a time and do not apply the next layer until the one before is completely dry, to avoid unsightly bumps. Wipe away any errors from around your nail beds with nail polish remover on a q-tip.

Once dry, add a final lick of clear polish to minimize chipping to make your set looking fresher for longer.
